As lawyers, we often work in environments where the stakes are high and success is determined by small margins under extreme pressure. With changes in the financial markets, we are expected to produce more with fewer resources and work around the clock to provide value. We shoulder the emotional burdens of our client's problems while interfacing with difficult personalities. Further, the legal profession is competitive and we must continually grow and develop to remain relevant and advance in our careers. All of these factors create layers of stress.
This one hour workshop introduces lawyers to the research and science that impacts wellbeing for lawyers. In this one hour workshop attendees will learn:
(1) Stress and the Legal Profession: an overview of research on the impact of stress on legal professionals.
(2) Stress + Productivity: demystifying the impact of stress + why some stress is needed for peak performance
(3) Stress Recovery + Prevention: three key strategies necessary to recover from and prevent burnout.
(4) Wellbeing Booster Plan: this workshop is interactive and attendees will create an action plan to boost their wellbeing with just 30 minutes per day.
Attendees will leave inspired and empowered with tools they can immediately implement to support themselves and serve their clients.

Research shows that constant stress and overwhelm decreases our capacity to perform and impedes our career goals. Just like an elite athlete, what separates a good lawyer from a great one isn’t just their technical ability, but rather their ability to master the game. Stress is a part of the game, so it’s critical for lawyers to have an effective stress management plan.
This one hour workshop teaches lawyers how to build a holistic stress management plan that incorporates 4 critical functions : Rest, relaxation, focus and mindset. Attendees will learn:
(1) How to identify the stress that is bad (and good) for your career.
(2) The metrics you can use to measure whether you're getting effective sleep, plus common ways that lawyers unintentionally sabotage their sleep.
(3) Why the ability to relax is essential to stress management, and an easy relaxation exercise that only takes 1 minute.
(4) How to manage your attention and energy (not just your time), plus science backed tips to increase your capacity to focus.
(5) Techniques to shift your perspective about stress, so that the impacts of stress become less harmful.
This workshop can be expanded with an optional guided meditation and breath work experience.
It’s possible to thrive in a legal career without burning out, but it requires creating a sustainable pathway. This workshop will give lawyers a jump start to create that path forward.

This one-hour workshop teaches law students critical skills to manage the inevitable stress of law school. It helps them understand why they are experiencing stress and develop positive coping habits. Attendees will learn:
(1) Stress and the Legal Profession - an overview of research on the impact of stress on law students and legal professionals
(2) Stress Management Skills - the essential elements of a stress management plan; guided stress management exercises.
(3) Wellbeing Booster Plan - attendees will create an action plan to boost their wellbeing.
Students will leave inspired, supported and encouraged to prioritize their wellbeing.

Karissa is also a certified executive coach, and is trained to guide her clients to find their own unique solutions. Wellbeing is not a one-size-fits-all project! Karissa is also a member of the Commission on Well-Being in the Law, created by the Michigan Supreme Court in collaboration with the Michigan State Bar.
